Name: Edmundo Guillén Age: Young Sex: Male Profession: Student Location: Low-income housing Affiliations: Ecuadorian Disposition: Curious Character Background and Description
Edmundo Guillén is a young boy of Ecuadorian heritage living in the Manta Departure Zone. He lives with his father in low-income housing, his mother died shortly after he was born. Growing up in the Manta Departure Zone hasn't been easy for Edmundo. For one, he's had to deal with constant looks from strangers, since children are relatively uncommon in the city. Some believe that society should stop having children, since the earth is quickly becoming overpopulated. Edmundo's father, who works for a construction company, comforts him by reminding him of his heritage. "You are Ecuadorian," his father tells him, "Ecuadorians were here before AsterCorp, and we will be here after. Be proud of who you are."
However, even his father can't pretend that the MDZ is the best enviornment. As the entire city is essentially a huge construction site, it isn't really the best place to raise a child in. Though, it isn't unheard of. Some corporations have education facilities for the children of their workers. However, this is more like day care with corporate brainwashing than it is actual grade schooling. Even so, Edmundo enjoys being able to be around other kids. Though the education is poor, Edmundo has shown a strong sense of curiosity, and spends a lot of time watching workers in the city and asking questions about how their equipment works. Edmundo's father wants to give his son the opportunity to receive a good education and possibly get him away from the Manta Departure Zone, but he barely brings in enough money for food. Edmundo wonders if he should try to find a job, even though he's only a kid, to take some of the stress off of his father.
